d'Overbroeck's Sixth-Form Centre, Oxford

The new Sixth-Form Centre consolidates d'Overbroeck's sixth-form teaching facilities into a single forum of learning on a transformed North Oxford Parkland site.

The project consisted of: a refurbishment of an existing Italianate Villa; the creation of an 'L' shaped building accommodating teaching, including common areas and a library, alongside a 180-seater flexible hall building. In deference to the existing materiality of the site, TSH chose to work with a sensitive material palette of buff brick, precast concrete, bath stone and glass.

The new buildings has been carefully arranged to create a central gathering space that steps away from the Italianate, Georgian villa. The villa itself is reframed by a new lawned setting to the South that not only allows views through the site but also provides a valuable shared space for students to inhabit.
